Detection of DCO in a circumstellar disk

We report the first detection of DCO in a circumstellar disk. The DCO J=5–4 line at 360.169 GHz is observed with the 15m James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in the disk around the pre-main sequence star TW Hya. Together with measurements of the HCO and HCO J=4–3 lines, this allows an accurate determination of the DCO/HCO ratio in this disk. The inferred value of 0.035±0.015 is close to that found in ...

First Detection of c-C3H2 in a Circumstellar Disk

We report the first detection of c-C3H2 in a circumstellar disk. The c-C3H2 J=6− 5 line (217.882 GHz) is detected and imaged through Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) Science Verification observations toward the disk around the Herbig Ae star HD 163296 at 0.8 resolution. The emission is consistent with that arising from a Keplerian rotating disk. Two additional c-C3H2 transitions are also t...

The Warped Circumstellar Disk of Hd100546

We propose that the two armed spiral features seen in visible Hubble Space Telescope images of scattered light in HD100546’s circumstellar disk are caused by the illumination of a warped outer disk. A tilt of 6-15 degrees from the symmetry plane can cause the observed surface brightness variations providing the disk is very twisted (highly warped) at radii greater than 200 AU where the spiral f...

Unveiling the Circumstellar Envelope and Disk: A Sub-Arcsecond Survey of Circumstellar Structures

We present the results of a λ = 2.7 mm continuum interferometric survey of 24 young stellar objects in 11 fields. The target objects range from deeply embedded Class 0 sources to optical T Tauri sources. This is the first sub-arcsecond survey of the λ = 2.7 mm dust continuum emission from young, embedded stellar systems. These multi-array observations, utilizing the high dynamic u,v range of th...

Polarimetric Observations of a New Circumstellar Disk System

Few circumstellar disks have been directly observed. Here we use sensitive differential polarimetric techniques to overcome atmospheric speckle noise in order to image the circumstellar material around HD 169142. The detected envelope or disk is considerably smaller than expectations based on the measured strength of the far-IR excess from this system.
